Melvin Baum, 66, of Houston, TX peacefully passed away at home in his sleep the morning of July 4, 2022 after a 3 and a half year battle with metastatic Prostate Cancer.
A native Houstonian, Melvin, or "Wolf" as many of you knew him, was born on June 28, 1956 and grew up in Bellaire, TX. As a young adult he was able to turn his love for cars into a career spanning over 40 years in the collision repair industry. From Mac Haik Peacock Chevrolet to Sterling McCall Restoration Center he met so many people that he was able to call "friend"! He was a people person gifted with a terrific personality, always willing to lend an ear - and often a solution, with a healthy dose of sarcasm and laughter!
We cannot think of Melvin without remembering his buddies who went before him, as we know they've been patiently awaiting his arrival. JR probably already has the Corvette selected, with Percy, Tony, Jay, Sherrill, Terry, and others standing by, whose faces remain but names escape us today - all there to welcome Melvin home.
He is survived by daughter Ashley Baum, 36, of Houston, Texas who he fondly called "Ash." They shared a special, unbreakable bond cemented in trips "to Daddy's work at Mac Haik".
He is also survived by stepdaughter Ryann Mahoney, 27, of Houston, Texas whom he raised from the age of 2 years old. Melvin lovingly welcomed her like one of his own and was blessed to have her at his side in his last days.
In addition to his two daughters, Melvin leaves behind his sister, Sonia Kahanek; brother, Mike (Rhonda) Baum; former wife, Laura Baum; and many nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Minnie Baum; and his brother-in-law, John Kahanek III.
His sense of humor and positive spirit that we all love and remember carried on with him throughout his battle with cancer. Although family and friends will continue to grieve long after this loss, Melvin lived a life worth celebrating. His spirit continues to warm our hearts as it was his request to hold a "Celebration of Life."
