It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Melvin Lester Goldin on February 7, 2025. Melvin was born on March 8, 1950 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He married Robbie Lowitz in 1971. They moved to Jackson, Mississippi where he attended Medical School at Ole Miss. In 1975, he moved to Nashville, TN to complete his Residency and Fellowship in Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University. In 1980, he moved to Memphis where he began his almost 30 year career at Lakeside Hospital and his private practice of 41 years. During this time, he helped innumerable people and their families while also raising his 3 children, Kayla, Josh, and Bethany. After being retired for a few years, he decided to again share his gift of helping people and recently began working with Thistle and Bee.
Mel enjoyed Star Trek, science fiction, and his weekly poker game. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He was a gentle soul who deeply cared about others and had a gift for making them feel comfortable. He was described often as a "Mensch."
Mel was remarried to Ronna Waldman in 2004. They were married for almost 21 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife Robbie Goldin, his father Jack Goldin, and his brother-in-law Glenn Lowitz.
He is survived by his wife Ronna Goldin, his children and stepchildren Kayla (Jason) Salomon, Joshua (Nadine) Goldin, Bethany (Marc) Levee, David (Mariella) Rachelson, 9 grandchildren, his siblings Alan (Hope) Goldin, Martin (Amy) Goldin, Steve (Debbie) Goldin, Ellen Lowitz, many nieces and nephews, and his mother, Florence Goldin.
The family kindly requests that any donations be made to Memphis Jewish Community Partners or Baron Hirsch Synagogue in his memory.
