Melvin was a devout Catholic and long-time parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. His greatest passion was to ride and train horses. Melvin grew up riding horses and knew from a young age that he wanted to be a trainer. He had a way of accomplishing everything he set out to do and he instilled this "never quit" mentality into his children and grandchildren. His family meant everything to him and he was proud to be called "Pops" by his grandchildren. Melvin loved family get-togethers, where he could take pictures, dance and have a good time.
Melvin will be remembered by his easy going, happy spirit and by the smile he always wore. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rita Carron LeBlanc; son, Christopher LeBlanc (Vicki); daughter, Chaunte' LeBlanc; brothers, Milton LeBlanc and Linton LeBlanc (Anna Jean); sisters, Mary Lee Wiltz, Earlene Castex (Roland), Mary Alice LeBlanc and Mary Lou Lewis; grandchildren, Larry Jean-Batiste, Coddie Noel, Sr., Cymone Thomas, Victoria LeBlanc, Ean LeBlanc, Eyonna LeBlanc and Jermonte' Hamilton; and his great-grandchildren, Shaniah, Coddie, Jr., Chloie, Lakin, Kaedyn, Karson, Karli and Amir.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilton LeBlanc and Pauline Williams LeBlanc; sisters, Priscilla Noel and Renella Demouchet; and his brother, Earl LeBlanc.
Pallbearers will be Coddie Noel, Sr., Ean LeBlanc, Marvin Castex, Chadwick Mouton, Leadrick Pitte and Bradford Landry.
