Melvin Wayne Moore, affectionately known as "Big Dog", was born on July 20, 1964 and with a spirit that was as open as the roads he travelled, he went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2024. Melvin left behind a legacy woven through laughter, love, and the importance of family.
A devoted husband to his beloved wife, Jennifer, Melvin's greatest pride resided within his family. He was the proud grandfather to his eleven grandchildren and an even prouder father to his children, Kristina, Brandon, Thomas, Chantel, and Adam. Each one, a treasure in his heart, carries a piece of his spirit as he poured his essence into their lives—teaching them the importance of hard work, but also about the value of humor, resilience, and love.
Melvin's career was a reflection of his hard work and determination, which allowed him to start Big Dog Trucking —a passion that spanned the spectrum from pickup trucks to mixer trucks and 18 wheelers. He was a truck driver at heart; being on the road was calming to his nerves and the rumble of an engine was music to his ears. Yet, beyond his dedication to his work, it was the moments shared with family that filled his life with joy and meaning.
Those who were fortunate enough to have known Melvin will forever cherish the memories of a man whose laughter echoed in every corner of their lives. He had an uncanny ability to find humor in any situation, knowing exactly how to lighten the mood and make everyone around him smile. Whether it was through playful banter, challenging his sons to races, or engaging in spirited bouts of 'Mercy' — always ensuring he came out on top, of course — he cultivated countless moments of joy that would become cherished memories.
A true connoisseur of all things mechanical, Melvin found supreme satisfaction in working on cars and motorcycles. From the clinking tools in his garage to the shine of a freshly polished car, every moment spent together was an opportunity for life lessons, bonding, and storytelling about his younger years. His helpful nature, coupled with an unwavering work ethic, painted the portrait of a man who not only built his business from the ground up but laid the foundation for a loving family that admired him.
Melvin was not solely defined by his accomplishments but rather by the warmth and kindness he showed to others. As he careened through life, he touched hearts with his caring demeanor and larger-than-life personality, reminding everyone that happiness could often be found in both the simplest of moments and the hardest of times.
He now joins his beloved parents, Melvin Thomas Moore and Velma Ruth Abrams, creating an eternal reunion that embraces warmth and love beyond comprehension.
A graveside service honoring Melvin will be held on October 25, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Kempner Cemetery in Kempner, Texas. Family and friends will gather to celebrate a life rich with laughter and love, a testament to a man who was truly unforgettable.
The legacy of Melvin Wayne Moore—Big Dog—will continue to roar through the laughter of his children, the delight of his grandchildren, and the fond memories etched in the hearts of all who knew him.
