Melvin Roberts Obituary
Melvin was born in Lincoln County, Georgia on September 18, 1932 to Stiner Baxley Roberts and Hazel Storey Roberts. Melvin served in the U.S. Navy before graduating from the University of Georgia where he received a degree in Engineering. He retired after a long career at Georgia Power.
Melvin was an active member of First Baptist Church of Augusta and the Cason Brucker Bible Class. Melvin's favorite days were spent outdoors basking in the sun while fishing or golfing. Although he enjoyed watching any sport, he cheered on the Bulldogs football with the most enthusiasm. He was an avid reader, often reading a novel per day. Melvin loved traveling with his wife, Thursday night dinners with friends, and spending time with family.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Judy Jameson Roberts, and sons, Melvin Roberts, Jr. and Michael Roberts.
Melvin is survived by his son, Steve Roberts (Angie), his grandchildren, Terri Gibbs (Matthew) and Prisila Reilly (Brandon), his great-grandchildren, Parker Gibbs (Moira), Chandler Gibbs, Ansley Gibbs, and Jude Reilly, his brother-in-law, Tommy Jameson (Joyce), his nephew, Wade Jameson, and niece, Joy Brown.
The memorial service will be held Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Rodger Murchison officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M., at the church. Honorary pallbearers will be the Cason Brucker Bible Class.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Augusta, 3500 Walton Way Extension, Augusta, GA 30909.
