Melvyn "Mel" Herbert McClure May 7, 1939- December 10, 2025

Melvyn "Mel" Herbert McClure, age 86, passed away peacefully at home on December 1O, 2025.

Mel was born on May 7, 1939, in Bellingham, Washington, to Herbert and Ruby McClure. He grew up with his younger brother, Mike, and graduated from Highline High School in 1957.

Shortly after, Mel enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving until his discharge in June 1963. Following his service, he worked at Boeing on several programs.

On August 24, 1963, Mel married the love of his life, Gaye. They shared 44 years of marriage and raised three sons, Doug, Steve, and Brian, building a life centered on family, faith, and service. Mel was a devoted father who coached youth sports and cherished family camping trips throughout Washington.

In 1973, Mel began volunteering with King County Fire District 23. In 1976, he left Boeing to become one of the original paramedics for King County Medic One (then Highline Medic One), serving the community with compassion and skill for decades. After retiring in 2003, Mel continued his service as a Chaplain with King County Fire, offering comfort, spiritual support, and mentorship to the community and future emergency responders. He remained active in this role until health issues sidelined him earlier this year.

Mel's life was guided by a deep and unwavering faith. As his family lovingly shared: "He loved God with all his heart. He walked out his faith every day and shared the truth and grace of Jesus Christ with everyone." A proud first-generation Irish American, Mel cherished his heritage and trips to Ireland.

Mel is survived by his son Doug (Deanna); brother Mike (Judy); daughter-in-law Tina; grandchildren Logan (Tarah), Garrett, Justin, Lorey, Ryan, Anthony (Alethea), and Rodrigo; and great-grandchildren Anthony Jr., Alexandria, Jaden, Josiah, Jensen, and Jemma, along with extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Gaye (2007); and sons Brian (2013) and Steve (2016).

Mel's legacy of faith, compassion, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A visitation will be held on January 2, 2026, from 1pm to 4pm at Bonney-Watson. Service for family and friends will be held Saturday, January 3rd at noon with a private military graveside service after. A public memorial will be held on January 17th, 2026, at River of Life Church in Kent WA; more information to follow and will be posted by family and/or KCFD/KCM1.
