Merced Vera Espitia

Merced Vera Espitia, born on September 23, 1946, in Guanajuato, Mexico, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, in East Flat Rock, North Carolina, at the age of 79.

Merced was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was a man of humble beginnings who worked diligently as an apple picker throughout his life. His unwavering commitment to his family and his faith was evident in all that he did. As a devoted member of the Catholic Church, he found strength and solace in his faith.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Elias Vera and Maria Concepcion. Merced leaves behind his cherished wife of 56 years, Eva Vargas. Together, they built a loving family who carries forward his legacy of love and resilience. He is survived by his daughters, Maria Del Refugio, Maria De La Luz, and Maria Concepcion, all residing in East Flat Rock, North Carolina, and his sons, Gilberto Vera, Gabriela Yepez, Gustavo Vera, and Leticia Vera, all of Hendersonville, North Carolina. His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren, Mariela Vera, Lili Mondragon, Gabriel Vera, and Maria Isabel Vera, and his great-grandchildren, Zoe, Renata, Giselle, and Thiago.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Wednesday, November 26th, from 5 to 7 PM in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. A Catholic Mass will be held in his honor on Friday, November 28, at 2:00 PM, followed by a burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

Merced's life was a testament to the values of hard work, faith, and family. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
