Merle Johnson Obituary
Merle Elizabeth “GiGi” Faircloth Johnson, 93, of Hope Mills, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Hope Mills Retirement Center.
Born April 17, 1930, in Cumberland County, GiGi is the daughter of the late Charles Henton Faircloth and Ollie Blanche Cameron Faircloth. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Johnson, Sr.; son, Robert Lee Johnson, Jr.; and brothers, David Faircloth and Harold Faircloth.
GiGi is survived by her daughter, Paulette McLean and husband Al; son, Danny Johnson and wife Cindy; grandsons, Trey McLean and wife Tanya, Brandon McLean and wife Beth, Daniel Johnson and wife Brittany, Bobby Johnson and wife Michelle, and Zachary Johnson and wife Stephanie; great grandchildren, Grace McLean, Annika McLean, Nolan McLean, Cecilia McLean, Ashton Johnson, Ellayna Johnson, Cody Williams, Contessa Williams, Caroline Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Jude Johnson, and Zachary Johnson II; brother-in-law, Joe Johnson and wife Jeri; brother-in-law, Allen Johnson; sister-in-law, Betty Madison; sister-in-law, Nancy Johnson; caregiver, Jan Smith; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
Throughout the years, GiGi impacted numerous lives. Whether it was during her time as a substitute teacher or simply spreading joy to the people she met every day, Gigi left a lasting impression on us all. She never met a stranger and loved everyone with all her heart. She will always be remembered for her affectionate hugs, bright smile, and kind words. It can be truly said that she lived the Christian life to the fullest and counted her blessings every day.
GiGi was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff at the Hope Mills Retirement Center for all the love and care given to GiGi during the time she was there. A special thanks to PruittHealth Hospice for the wonderful care they gave her during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request memorial contributions in honor of GiGi be made to Cotton Methodist Church in Hope Mills.
