On the evening of Dec. 5, 2024 Lela Merlice Munds passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family and friends at the age of 81. Lela, known primarily to most as Merlice, was born in Camden, Arkansas on September 5, 1943. She attended Fair Park High School in Shreveport, Louisiana where she graduated in 1961. She married the love of her life, Sherman D. Munds on September 14, 1968 and together shared six children. Merlice had many siblings she loved to travel with and stayed close with until her death. Up until she got sick, she attended church at Blanchard Church of the Nazarene where she enjoyed services and fellowship with many friends. She thoroughly enjoyed camping all over the country with her husband, Sherman, sister, Barb and husband, Jessie until their later years in life. She spent her time baking, gardening, shopping and her most notable time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed visiting with, celebrating birthdays and attending special events with her great-grandchildren, Wayne, Emmy, Luke, Kylie Jo, Otto, Arlo, Braxton, Sadie and Evie. She was loved and cherished by many and will be missed terribly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Pearl; one sister, Jean; two brothers, Paul and Junior; daughter, Cindy; son, Steve; daughter-in-law, Ann; and grandson, Nick.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 56 years, Sherman D. Munds; sister, Barbara and husband, Jessie; sister, Linda and husband, Horace; son, Mitchell and Chris; son, Howard and wife, Betty; daughter, Sherry and husband, Johnny; son, Jeff and wife, Sherrill; grandchildren, Lauren; Rachel and husband, DeWayne; Jason and wife, Jackie; Sam; Kirstin; Greg; Jennifer; Erica and Gary; Chris and wife, Lisa; Big Daniel; Christine and husband, Casey; Joshua and wife, Brittany; and Little Daniel, along with many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation for friends and extended family will be held for Merlice at Rose-Neath South Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Immediate family visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. with services to follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Forest Park West Cemetery immediately following the services.
Honoring Merlice as pallbearers will be grandsons, Chris Ashby, Big Daniel, Little Daniel, Joshua McPherson, along with Casey Fondren and Gary Abood. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Greg Perry and Johnny Ashby.
