Merlin "Stoney" Stone, age 87, of Algona passed away on October 9, 2024 at the Kossuth Regional Medical Center in Algona. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Saturday October 12th at the Divine Mercy Catholic Parish - St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. Burial will take place in the Calvary Cemetery in Algona. Visitation will be 9 am until service time on Saturday at the Divine Mercy Catholic Parish – St. Cecelia Presentation Center. Merlin Arlin Stone, the son of Charles and Pearl (Cassem) Stone, was born on October 15, 1936 in East Chain, Minnesota. On September 19, 1958, Stoney was united in marriage with Carol McGruder at the Holy Rosary Parish in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He worked as a welder at Snap-On Tools for over 20 years.
Stoney enjoyed fishing, hunting with his nephews and grandchildren, camping, working in his garage, watching westerns and the Iowa Hawkeyes, oatmeal cookies with coffee and dancing. He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Stoney would always tell them "I love you".
Left to cherish Stoney's memory is his wife of 66 years, Carol; a son, Jeff of Whittemore; grandchildren, Brandon Stone of Algona, Britteny (Willie Nelson) Stone of Cylinder and Travis (Megan) Stone of Whittemore; great grandchildren, Gunnar, Kenzie, Harper, Kooper, Ryker and Luke; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy; grandson, Ryan; and sisters, Lorraine McCelland, Joan Heun, Judy Cerwick and Marcella Schaler.
