Mervene Elam Currie, 98, of Addison, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2025, at The Folsom Center in Cullman, Alabama. Born on May 27, 1927, in Winston County to the late William and Della (Glover) Elam, Mervene led a life full of love and laughter.
Mervene is survived by Ray (Florence) Currie; grandsons, Sean (Elizabeth) Currie and Ryan (Jennifer) Currie; Christina Chase and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan, Jacob, Aleksandra, Dustin, Savannah, and Dillon Currie. The family also includes great-great-grandchildren Emery, Juno, Silas, Jameson Currie, and Olivia; Sharon Ward; Ronnie (Melissa) Privett, Jeff Privett, and many other nieces and nephews who cared for Mervene during the years she resided alone in the Hog Jaw Community.
Mervene and Verbon W. Currie returned to Alabama after living in Phoenix, Arizona, and Indianapolis, Indiana, as Alabama was always considered home. During later years, Mervene received devoted care from Sharon Ward, Kerry, Ronnie, and Jeff Privett.
Mervene was preceded in death by Verbon W. Currie; William and Della (Glover) Elam; Jack, Ormond, and Hugo Elam; Allene Privett; and Peter Dwight Ward and Kerry Privett.
Mervene will be remembered for contagious laughter, zest for life, and a passion for sharing the rich history of the Bankhead Forest area, which she cherished. A devout Christian, Mervene found joy in daily devotionals and was an avid fan of mystery novels.
Mervene will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in the Nesmith Community, followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Pisgah Cemetery. The service will be officiated by Brother Steton Hayes and Brother Junior Garmon.
