COLONIE—
Mia Victoria Michael, affectionately known as Vicki, passed away unexpectedly on January 17, 2026, at the age of 79. Born in Portland, Maine, and adopted by James Fredrick Bruno and Theresa Tripp Shaw, Vicki’s journey took her from the coast of Maine to California before she eventually settled in Albany, New York.
Highly intelligent and dedicated to her education, Vicki attended Smith College as an older student under the Ada Comstock Scholars Program. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa with her B.A. She continued her academic pursuits by earning an MBA from Capella University, paving the way for a distinguished professional career with the State of New York, where she served as a Senior Project Manager.
Vicki was, above all, a dedicated mother. Realizing her lifelong dream of a family, she adopted her daughter, Mia, from China and her son, Euzekiel, from Haiti. She was extremely supportive and generous, pouring everything into her children’s education at private schools and providing enriching experiences like travel, ballet, and theater. Alongside her best friend Carole Pink, who later co-adopted the children, she raised them in a home defined by unconditional love.
Known for her great sense of humor and kind heart, Vicki was a "book of knowledge" and a loyal friend. She did not have a prejudiced bone in her body and supported many causes for minorities, refugees, and the poor. She was an accomplished knitter and baker, often gifting handmade candy and treats to friends. A true cat lover, she once cared for five at a time. She also found joy in simple pleasures: creating legendary Halloween costumes, decorating for Christmas, and enjoying her favorite Starbucks mocha Frappuccino.
Vicki is survived by her daughter Mia, her son Euzekiel, her half-sister Bonnie Lutze, and her dear friend and co-parent Carole Pink.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Judie Gorra, Melissa Martin, Scott Pink, Jean Marie Angelo, Bonnie Lutze, Liza, and Karen for their unwavering support.
The world is a better place because of Vicki, and she will be profoundly missed.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at Simple Choices Cremation.
