Michael J. Anderson, passed away on January 23, 2024 at the age of 76 in Abingdon, Virginia. Born on June 4, 1947 in Monroe County, West Virginia, Michael led a fulfilling life that left a lasting impact on his community and loved ones.
After graduating from Massilon High School, Michael committed himself to serving his country as a member of the United States Marines. His military service instilled in him a sense of discipline and duty that he carried with him throughout his life. Also, he was a recipient of a Purple Heart.
Following his honorable discharge from the Marines, Michael ventured into business and sales. Later in life became the owner of two successful gas stations. Through hard work and dedication to providing excellent service to his customers, he built a successful business that became an integral part of his community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael had a deep passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed exploring nature through activities such as hiking and biking. Golfing was another favorite pastime that allowed him to connect with friends and take in the beauty of the greens.
In times of grief and loss, Michael always held his family close to his heart. He is survived by his sons, Michael McKinley Anderson (Jenny Cosgray) and Michael David Richards (Yisell), who will forever cherish their memories of their loving father. Michael also leaves behind several cherished family members: sisters Evelyn and Phyllis; brothers Norman, Ronnie, Louie, Donny, and Danny; grandson Dylan Anderson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Michael's passing is mourned deeply by his family and friends. In honoring his memory and celebrating his life well-lived, two services have been scheduled. The visitation will be held on January 29, 2024, at Farris Funeral Service – Main Street Chapel in Abingdon from 1:00 p.m. - to 1:45 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. with William Denton officiating.
Through his dedication to his family, business, and community, Michael J. Anderson left a profound impact on those who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever be cherished, and his legacy will continue to inspire others to live life with integrity, hard work, and a love for the outdoors.
