Miller Funeral Home - FridleyMichael Edwin Anderson, 78, died on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025. Mike was a follower of Jesus. He was a family man. He loved animals. Mike was born on September 5, 1947, in Breckenridge, MN. He was the only child born to Herb and Dorothy Anderson.
Mike's biggest passion in life was loving and serving others. For twenty years, he cherished the role of co-coordinator for the St. Philip's Disaster Relief team, a ministry that has resulted in 87 trips, spanned 14 states with 189 team members traveling 89,630 miles to help natural disaster survivors.
Mike loved his family fiercely. Nothing made him happier than being with his wife of 55 years, Carol, his two children, Chris and Jenni, his daughter-in-law, Heidi, and his beloved grandchildren, Oaklie and Zeke (OZ). Whether time at the cabin, watching OZ in competition (and the Lynx), or celebrating a birthday, time with his family meant more to him than anything.
Mike loved animals. We know that one of the first things he did after his death was to drop by the Rainbow Bridge and pick up his beloved dog, Katie, for the journey.
The Navy Seabees was his calling from 1968-1970. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Stationed in Gulfport, MS, he lost all his belongings in Hurricane Camille. He continued his federal service, first, at the Army Corp of Engineers in St. Paul and later, until his retirement, with the National Weather Service in Chanhassen.
How do you fully summarize a life well served in just a few short paragraphs? You don't. However, it would be Mike's hope that we'd see it in all of us he left behind. We'd see it in our patient and gentle kindness to others, our helping those less fortunate, our treating animals with care, and loving our families beyond measure.
And as Mike has been called by Jesus, we know that his Journey Continues.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Philip's Lutheran Church in Fridley on January 9, 2026. Visitation is at 9:00am, service at 11:00am, and a luncheon following the service. An interment at Fort Snelling will be planned for spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest memorials to the St. Philip's Disaster Relief Fund https://pushpay.com/g/splcmn or the Animal Humane Society https://www.animalhumanesociety.org.
