Michael Lee Andorfer, 82, passed away Thursday, February 16, at the Charles George VA Medical Center.
Born November 10, 1940, in Fort Wayne, IN, he was the son of the late Solomon and Gertrude Miller Andorfer. He was an Army veteran and retired as a heavy equipment mechanic. He lived in Buncombe County since 1997 where he formerly attended Bell United Methodist Church. Following retirement, Mr. Andorfer enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, grilling with family and fishing.
He is survived by his five children, Diane Hines (Gary), Michelle Kruckeberg (Jody), Pamela Weber (Mike), Thomas "Tommy" Andorfer (Monica), and Sarah Andorfer (Jamie); 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife, Mary Powers Andorfer, a sister, Beth Standiford (Paul), brothers, John Andorfer and Thomas Andorfer (Joy), and a sister-in-law, Joleen Andorfer. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Herman, brother, Daniel Andorfer and a sister-in-law, Sharon Andorfer.
Funeral services with military honors will be conducted by the Reverend Donald Penland at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
