In Loving Memory of Michael Joseph Bavaro
July 10, 1931 – July 9, 2025
It is with profound sadness and deep respect that we announce the passing of Michael Joseph Bavaro, who left this world peacefully on July 9, 2025, surrounded by the devoted and loving care of his daughter Michele Bavaro-Nielsen, son-in-law Joseph Nielsen and the loving thoughts of his children and grandchildren.
Born in Queens, New York, Michael lived a remarkable life filled with love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
Michael was a loving husband to his wife, Frances Bavaro, with whom he shared a life of mutual devotion and joy. Together, they were the heart of the family, never missing an event and always the biggest cheerleaders for their children and grandchildren. Affectionately known as "Poppy," Michael's warmth and presence brought energy to every gathering. He is predeceased by his cherished wife Frances and their beloved son Daniel, as well as seven siblings. He is survived by his loving sister, Frances Marcoccia (nee Bavaro).
A proud father, Michael leaves behind his daughter Michele and husband Joseph, son Michael, and wife Donna Marie. His legacy continues through his loving grandchildren: Kevin Nielsen, Joseph Nielsen, Concetta Johnson (Robert), T.J. Loftus (Kim), Michael Bavaro III (MaryAnne), Daniel Bavaro, and Chloe Bavaro, as well as his great-grandchildren: Robert, Luke, Nicholas, and Audrina.
Michael's life was marked by resilience and achievement. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. As a young man raising three children, he worked tirelessly, holding three jobs seven days a week to provide for his family. After earning his GED and pursuing college coursework, Michael built an outstanding career, culminating in a leadership role with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at Newark Airport, where he retired in 1987. Michael's work ethic, determination, and eye for detail were an inspiration to all who knew him.
Michael and Frances raised their family first in Bay Shore, New York and then in Edison, New Jersey, creating a home filled with love and memories. As an involved parent, Michael managed his son's little league teams and coached CYO basketball. Michael was deeply engaged in his community and served as President of his HOA in Whiting Station, New Jersey. In his later years, Michael lived with his daughter Michele and son-in-law Joseph, where he continued to embrace life with curiosity, provocation, and enthusiasm. A man of adaptability, Michael embraced modern technology despite being from a pre-digital era. He was an avid iPad user, eagerly exploring innovations like Artificial Intelligence and YouTube reflecting his lifelong passion for learning and discovery.
He found great satisfaction in do-it-yourself home improvement projects, a testament to his hands-on spirit and despise of unscrupulous contractors.
Michael Bavaro's legacy is one of love, hard work, and an enduring commitment to family and community. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. A tribute followed by Mass with Military Honors will be held to celebrate his extraordinary life.
