Michael E. Belt

Mike E. Belt was born in 1957 to Jerome Ronald and Patsy Marie Belt. Growing up in New York, Mike was close with his brother and sisters. He had many childhood interests that he carried with him through his life. This included enjoying the outdoors, especially camping and shooting. He also enjoyed theater, acting in several plays. He developed a life-long appreciation for reading, particularly history.

Mike was also engaged in numerous civic activities, contributing to his school and community. After graduating in 1975, he enlisted in the US Army the following year.

The Army became a defining element of Michael's life. He would go on to serve twenty years and achieve the rank of Master Sergeant within the Intelligence Community. His skills and education gave him the opportunity to serve in NASA as a payload specialist. It was in the Army that he met his wife, Joy Read, and they would go on to have three children, Jesse, Seth, and Sarah.

After retiring in 1996, Mike became a contractor working for several companies in Arizona and California. Michael also tried his hand and several entrepreneurial ventures.

In addition to his enjoyment of the outdoors, Michael also learned to fly private airplanes and sail boats. He enjoyed cinema, motorcycles, and cigars.

He is survived by his wife, Joy; his children, and eight grandchildren. He also had numerous siblings, nephews, and nieces.

A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
