David Anthony Belt

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of David Anthony Belt, 63, of Louisville, KY. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 6, 2026.

David was a man with a heart of gold. While he was strong-willed and famously stubborn, he was also a kind soul who never met a stranger. He dearly loved his family, his cat Sheldon, the UK Wildcats, and the Chicago Bears. An avid reader who often turned to the Bible, David also found peace in nature, especially while hunting, camping, or visiting the Red River Gorge. Known for his sense of humor, he loved making people laugh and frequently shared his favorite stories. He loved deeply, was loved in return, and will be greatly missed.

Born in Louisville on October 9, 1962, at Saint Anthony's Hospital, David spent his first three months fighting for his life—a miracle he survived. A lifelong Catholic, he attended Epiphany Catholic Church in his youth and graduated from Trinity High School in 1980. David served in the United States Air Force, with assignments in the Philippines and Mountain Home, Idaho. Following his service, he earned his HVAC certification from JCTC and worked as a technician for many years. A true "jack of all trades," he served as a Maintenance Instructor at Whitney M. Young Job Corps Training Center, where he inspired young people to build bright futures. He also served as Maintenance Supervisor at Louisville Collegiate School and was most recently employed at United Refrigeration. His dream was to establish a trade school to help young people become skilled workers, reflecting his deep care for others' success.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Smith Belt and Anna Lois Vowels Belt. He is survived by his daughter, Katie Belt; his long-term partner and the love of his life, Kathy; his former spouse and friend, Pat Belt; his brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Marta Belt; nieces and nephews, Alice and Eric Morris, Franklin and Brittney Belt, Joseph Belt and Joseph Petters, and Emma Belt; and great-nephews, Henry, George, Oliver, and Dylan.

In accordance with his wishes, David will be cremated. He often joked that his ashes should be placed in a Maxwell House coffee can and buried in the Red River Gorge.
