Michael L. Berryhill, 59, passed away peacefully at his home in
Brentwood, Tennessee, on August 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was just two weeks shy of his 60th birthday.
He was born in Syracuse, New York, to Richard and Donna Berryhill on September 10, 1965. Mike grew up with his two older brothers, Brad and Mark, in Liverpool, New York, and western Pennsylvania, where he found an early passion for golf and football. He graduated from the State University of New York at Cortland in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and Biology. Mike's adventurous spirit led him to skip his college graduation and head to Southern California. There, he slept on his brother's couch, taught school, worked in a medical laboratory, and soon thereafter, met Laurie who would later become his wife and life partner.
Mike worked in the laboratory industry for five years and during that time discovered a love for both working in healthcare and an interest in other aspects of the industry-specifically, strategic sourcing and supply chain management. This afforded him the opportunity to have an even greater impact on the healthcare industry, beginning a remarkable 25-year journey upon joining the Broadlane Group in 2000, a supply chain management company based in Dallas, Texas. During his 10 years there, he quickly developed a reputation for being passionate, dedicated, always prepared and was widely known as the ultimate collaborator and connector of people.
After the Broadlane Group was sold to MedAssets, Mike took the opportunity to spend more time at home with his family, chauffeuring his kids, Emma and Aiden to school and binge-watching Downton Abbey on the sofa with Laurie. Any other extra time was filled with various consulting projects, while he decided what he wanted to do next.
In 2013, he joined HealthTrust Performance Group in Nashville, Tennessee, as its Chief Operating Officer. He was later promoted to President of GPO Operations. Mike's strategic insight and reputation in the marketplace, honed through prior executive roles at The Broadlane Group, made an immediate impact at HealthTrust. This role allowed him to take all that he had learned over the course of his career and apply it in his own way, shaping the vision for the next chapter of his life. Under his stewardship, HealthTrust solidified its reputation as an industry leader, delivering exceptional contract portfolios and cost management strategies to more than 1,800 hospitals and thousands of non-acute care providers. Mike was beloved by his colleagues who admired him as a brilliant strategist, an inspirational leader and an approachable mentor whose insights left an indelible mark on his co-workers, peers and on the industry.
While Mike had an incredible career, his family was the most important part of his life. He cherished his life in Nashville, where he embraced Tennessee's natural beauty, country music, long drives with his wife through the countryside, attending special occasions with his children and enjoying family dinners with his parents. His originality, wit and warmth shaped by his formative years in upstate New York and Pennsylvania-endeared him to all who were fortunate to know him. A lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, avid golfer and music lover, he savored relaxing outdoors with a fine bourbon. His vibrant personality shone through in his passion for literature, storytelling and fostering meaningful relationships, which he wove into both his personal and professional life.
As a husband and father, his love for his family was matched only by his dedication to friends and community, where his sharp mind and kind heart fostered deep connections. He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Laurie Berryhill; his cherished children, Emma and Aiden Berryhill; his parents, Richard and Donna Berryhill; his brothers, Brad and Mark Berryhill, and their spouses; numerous nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of extended family, friends and colleagues who will forever cherish his memory.
Mike's life was a testament to purpose and generosity, blending professional acumen with a profound commitment to those he loved. His legacy of connectivity through music, storytelling and service will endure as an inspiration for others to live with integrity and compassion. The world is a better place because of Mike's impact on so many people. We can all take comfort in knowing that Mike recently received the Sacrament of Initiation; Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation in the Catholic Church. He will be greatly missed but the memories he created with all of us will live on forever.
Visitation for Michael L. Berryhill will be held on September 9, 2025, from PM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9100 Crockett Road, Brentwood TN, and on September 10 from 10-11AM. This will be followed by a memorial mass at 11AM and a celebration of life directly thereafter.
The family would like to give thanks to all those who lifted Mike up in prayers during his illness and in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Musicians On Call (musiciansoncall.org/Berryhill), honoring Mike's love of music and his dedication to enriching lives through healthcare.
