Michael J. Bivens
Mike Bivens, 73, was the best of men, loved by all who knew him. He was born April 12, 1952 in Osmond, NE to Bill and Dorothy (Weaver) Bivens. He collapsed and died while out walking on January 3, 2026.
Mike cherished his growing up years in Plainview. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Catholic church. He graduated from Plainview High School with the class of 1970. It was important to him that he maintained a special bond with his classmates throughout his life. He never forgot them.
On June 5, 1976 Mike married Maureen Kuhl at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Plainview. They were together through thick and thin for 49 wonderful years.
He attended the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1974. He then embarked on a teaching career, teaching hight school English and coaching football for 40 years. Norfolk Catholic High School, its staff and students were near and dear to his heart. He had legions of friends from his association with the school. He remembered every student he ever taught. After his retirement he continued to substitute teach until the time of his death. He was inducted into the Norfolk Catholic Hall of Fame in 2021.
Mike loved deeply. Family was everything to him. He is mourned by his wife Maureen, brother and sister-in-law Rich and Vickie Bivens, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Paula Schwarten and Mike Behne, niece Michelle (John) Erwin, nephews Tony (Jessica) Bivens, Will Gunning, and Michael Schwarten, mother-in-law Arleen Kuhl, 12 special first cousins, and a host of friends.
Those who have gone before him are his parents, brother Tony Bivens, sister Jennifer Gunning, father-in-law Myron Kuhl, niece Megan Schwarten, and cousin Dan Bivens.
It was Mike's wish that no services be held. There will be a private family burial at Pleasant View Cemetery rural Plainview, Nebraska. Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Plainview is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be directed to the family at www.snidermemorial.com
