Chef Michael J. Burns Jr. (known as Big Mike), born in New Orleans, LA, on August 14, 1980, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the age of 44. He lived in Jonesboro, GA.
He was the son of Michael Joseph Burns Sr. (Deborah) and Patricia Young Burns. He was a loving father to Michael Joseph Burns III, Mikelle Burns, Ahmad Duplessis, and Machai Burns, as well as a stepfather to Jalesia Simmons. He was also the grandfather of Heaven and Nevaeh Burns, and Jazmine Burns. He is survived by his siblings Kimberly Burns (Gabriel), Montreal Burns Williams (Korey), grandmother, Ruby Burns Curley; 4 nieces Dianiesh Burns Shields (Ricardo), Mya Burns, Gemia Flemings and Mila Burns and Nephew Terrence Worner and Aunt Dawn Burns Franklin (Rev. Calvin) and uncles Honore David Burns (Deborah), Kevin Maurice Burns Sr. (Gloria), Bruce Elliott Miles (Kimberly); stepsister Tanika Hawkins; stepbrother Neil E. Hawkins; many great aunts and uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Michael was a talented chef who worked for several restaurants in the Atlanta area, including Louisiana Bistreaux Seafood Kitchen, Applebee's Grill, IaIa & Co Australia Restaurant, and Granny's soul food restaurant He proudly showcased his culinary skills through his Creole with Soul food truck and catering business. He was an avid Saints fan; he kept many entertained on social media with his passion for the team. He was loved by and crazy about the kids, all his niece, great niece, and nephew great nephews.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Saturday, December 28, at Duplain W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave, New Orleans, La.
