Michael Thomas Cantwell

Michael Thomas Cantwell, 81, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on November 1 at his home in Newnan, GA. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing, having shown great strength through many health challenges. Michael was born on May 21, 1944, one of six children to the late John and Elizabeth "Betty" Radu Cantwell.
Michael will be remembered for his kind heart, quick wit, and the love he so generously shared with those around him. A lifelong and passionate golfer, he achieved an extraordinary five holes-in-one during his years as a member of several country clubs, most recently the Newnan Country Club. In addition to being an avid golfer, he was also a champion snacker, who loved his annual Cantwell Brothers Snack-a-Thon and Golf Outing, which always included Detroit Style Coney Island Hot Dogs. He was a caring mentor to many on their journeys to sobriety, offering guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support.
Professionally, Michael was known as a turnaround specialist, serving as a CFO and business consultant for numerous companies. His leadership, insight, and integrity left a lasting impact on colleagues, clients, and the organizations he helped guide.
A service honoring Michael's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4, with Chaplain Patrick Carter of Georgia Hospice Care officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. Messages of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.mckoon.com.
Michael is survived by his wife, Linda Wallace Cantwell; his children, Steven Cantwell (Tara), Kimberly Leonard (Mark), Matthew Cantwell (Sarah), and Craig Weston (Marianne); and his seven grandchildren, Ashley Leonard, Alli Leonard, Amanda Leonard, Liam Cantwell, Adriana Cantwell, Elizabeth Murphy (Michael), and Samuel Weston (Kaitlyn). He was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Cian Murphy.
Michael was the oldest sibling to Rick Cantwell (Sue), Bill Cantwell (Sue), Mary Beth Norris (Mark), Carol Boykin (Jim), and Dr. John Cantwell (Monica), and cousin, Barbarann Osborne. He is also survived by his former wife, Marilyn Schuch Flynn (Mike).
