Susan Sewell Hollingsworth, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, 74, of Winter Garden, Florida, passed away on November 5, 2025, at West Georgia Hospice after a valiant fight against lung cancer.
Susan was born July 12, 1951, in Newnan, Georgia, where she lived until 1989, when she moved to Orlando, Florida. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Lucy Sewell. She retired from the Orange County Public School System after 42 years of teaching, mostly math. During her 42 years of teaching, she taught every grade from Kindergarten to 10th, except for 2nd. She touched the lives of many children in both Coweta County, Georgia, and Orange County, Florida. Susan was a HUGE Georgia Bulldogs fan - even through the rough years. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was often the life of the party. She always had a cold Dr. Pepper (in a can) close by and often joked that she single-handedly kept them in business. After retiring, she found a love for traveling. Whether by land, sea, or air, she was always up for a great adventure with friends and family.
Susan is survived by her husband, Michael Hollingsworth of Winter Garden, Florida, daughter Leslie Thorp-Purdy of Hogansville, Georgia, grandsons Luke Purdy of Hogansville and Logan Thorp (Maranda) of West Point, Georgia, and two great-grandsons, Leo White and Colton Henry Thorp of West Point, Georgia, as well as by many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
The service celebrating Susan's life is Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 4:00 PM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, in Newnan, with Pastor Danny Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.
Susan has requested that you wear your favorite team attire (As long as it is Red and Black!) In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to City of Hope online at https://ourhope.cityofhope.org/, Newnan, Georgia, or West Georgia Hospice online at https://foundation.wellstar.org/give-now/, Lagrange, Georgia, in Susan's memory.
Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.mckoon.com.
