Michael “Mike” Don Cavitt, 78, went to meet his beloved plot coonhound, “Little Joe”, on January 23, 2026.
Mike was born at home in Crainville on June 20, 1947, the son of Gail and Louise (Jackson) Cavitt. He grew up in Crainville and graduated from Carterville High School.
On February 2, 1993, he married the love of his life, Brenda McKenzie, and together they shared many years filled with family, travel, and adventure.
Mike spent 32 years working on the highway maintenance crew before finishing the last 10 years of his career with the Illinois Department of Transportation as a drill rig operator. He also proudly served his community as a trustee on the Crainville Village Board.
An outdoorsman at heart, Mike loved coon hunting and traveling all over the United States. He was happiest outdoors or on the road, always enjoying the journey as much as the destination.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Cavitt; his children, LaShunda, Justin, Jerime, Justin, and Jennifer; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his faithful hunting companion, “Little Joe”.
In accordance with Mike’s wishes, he will be cremated, and no public services will be held.
