Michael Collins, beloved husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on August 2, 2023 at the age of 67 in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan. Born to Kathryn and Gerard Collins in Savannah, Georgia on December 24, 1955, Mike grew up in Detroit, Michigan. Although he is no longer with us, his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Throughout his life, Mike was a man of many passions and hobbies. One of his greatest joys was fixing up antique cars. His pride and joy was his iconic 1968 pink Mustang that turned heads wherever it went. Mike spent countless hours tinkering away in the garage with classic rock music blasting in the background. He had a natural talent for mechanics and loved attending car shows to showcase his beautifully restored vehicles. In addition to cars, Mike also had a love for motorcycles. He enjoyed both fixing them up and taking long rides out on the open road.
In addition to his love for all things automotive, Mike dedicated many years of his life to his chosen profession as a journeyman electrician and ultimately Business Agent at IBEW Local 58. With exceptional skills in electrical work and unwavering dedication to his craft, he not only excelled in his field but also left a lasting impact on all those he worked with. Mike's meticulousness and attention to detail were second to none.
Mike's family meant the world to him, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He leaves behind his loving wife of many years, Patricia Collins, who stood by him through thick and thin. Their bond was unbreakable. Together they built a beautiful life full of laughter and love.
Mike was a devoted father to his three daughters, Kimberly VanAssche (Adam), Rachael Collins, and Michelle Szparaga (Joseph). He guided them through life's many challenges with wisdom. His love for them was immeasurable.
Being a grandfather brought an indescribable joy to Mike's life. He adored his three beautiful grandchildren, Oliver, Sarah, and Katelynn. They brought light into his world and filled his heart with immense happiness.
Mike is also survived by his sisters Lisa Collins Hartley and Aggie Hurtado. Additionally, he leaves behind aunts, uncles and many other friends and family who were fortunate enough to have been a part of his life.
As we mourn the loss of Michael Collins, let us also celebrate the remarkable life he lived. Let us remember the laughter he brought into our lives, the memories we shared with him, and the lasting impact he had on all those fortunate enough to know him. Though our hearts ache with grief at his departure from this world, may we find solace in knowing that Mike's spirit will forever live on through the countless lives he touched during his time on earth.
Rest in peace, dear Mike. Your legacy will endure for generations to come.
