Michael Allen Coody, 70, of North Adams passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in North Adams on June 21, 1951, Michael was the son of the late George Sterling & Veronica Alice (Miller) Coody. He attended McCann Technical High School before enlisting in the United States Army. A member of the storied 101st Airborne Division, Michael served as an Electrician working on the CH-47 Chinook Helicopter fleet operating in the most forward areas of the day. Michael, a decorated Veteran of the Vietnam War, received an honorable discharge and returned home to North Adams to continue his life.
Michael retired from Specialty Minerals in Adams having operated heavy equipment for over 35 years. In retirement, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas, but most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Although known for his silly and playful nature, Michael was a dependable, loyal, hardworking, compassionate, and loving individual. He lived for his family and pets and spent his final days surrounded by their love and laughter.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Rose (Cote) Coody whom he married on January 20, 1979. He also leaves three children, Jeremy "JJ" (Christine) Coody of Palm Bay Florida, Michael (Kellie) Coody of North Adams, and Jennifer Marie Coody of North Adams; his grandchildren, Andrew, Charlotte, Annabelle, Michael and William Coody; siblings William Coody, Edward Coody, Phyllis Gaule, Marilyn Mahar, Carol Burdick, Janine Zoito, and Martha Pratt. Michael will be missed dearly by his two dogs, Maple and Lula, and grand dog Heebee.
