Michael Corbo Sr.'s story reflects a life filled with dedication, love, and accomplishments.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Michael's early years were marked by his athleticism and commitment to community. He excelled in football, basketball, and baseball at Asbury Park High School and was also head lifeguard in Avon, NJ, before attending Colgate University to study finance, where he captained the football team. Following his education, Michael served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
After his military service, he began his professional journey as a manager at Eastman Dillon Brokerage House in Paterson. In 1969, he joined his family's business, running Michael Anthony Jewelers in Willowbrook Mall and West Caldwell for 50 years, where he became a beloved fixture in the community.
His love of sports continued into his adult life, especially through his passion for golf. As a member of the Montclair Golf Club for over 50 years, Michael achieved a personal milestone by winning the Senior Club Championship with his son, Michael Jr., as his caddie.
Outside of his professional and athletic pursuits, Michael cherished his time with family and friends. Saturday nights were spent enjoying dinners with friends, while Sundays were reserved for family gatherings, traditions that brought him immense joy. He was known as a man of integrity, respected and loved by all who knew him.
Michael leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years, Joan (Nyitray), his children-Michael Jr. and his wife Suzanne, Lisa Berger, and Gregory-and his grandchildren, Christopher and Michael Corbo, Amanda and Fred Berger Jr., all of whom will carry his legacy forward. He is also survived by his brother, Anthony Corbo.
He is pre-deceased by his parents, Michael R Corbo and Mary Louise (Panico), his brother Alan G. Corbo, and his son-in-law, Fred Berger Sr.
The Corbo family will receive guests from 10-11am Monday November 11 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Roseland; followed by a funeral liturgy at 11:00 am. Interment and Funeral Military Honors to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Upper Montclair.

Michael was a real gentlemen, such a nice man. Always smiling when I would see him at many occasions at his son and daughter-in-law Suzanne house. Many times I would see him in Michael Anthony's jewelry store. He loved to go every day and spend time at the store. Sending prayers to his wife Joan and his family. warmly, Judy Pennetti
