With profound sadness, we announce the loss of Michael Anthony Correro - cherished husband of Susan Grady Correro, father of Andrew Correro and Courtney Cornwell, father-in-law of Ryan Cornwell and grandfather of Ethan and Eli - on November 28, 2021 in Knoxville.
Michael was the beloved brother of the late Dominic Correro Jr. and wife Geneva of Orlando, Florida; the late Phillip Correro and wife Carol of Holcomb, Mississippi; Terre Correro Cross of Birmingham, Alabama; the late Dorothy Murray and her late husband Roger of Tucson, Arizona; Jerome Correro and wife Huicha of Clayton, North Carolina; Joseph Correro and life partner Betty Alice of Hernando, Mississippi; Martha Correro Wood of Ruleville, Mississippi; Frank Correro and wife Laura of Indian Harbour Beach, Florida; Marie Andrews and husband Dan of Clarksdale, Mississippi; and Rebecca Edwards and husband Mark of Oxford, Mississippi. Proceeded in death by his dear parents Dominic and Mary Beth Correro of Clarksdale, Mississippi. Uncle to many, many wonderful nieces and nephews that were all precious to him.
Michael's complete and unconditional love and dedication to his family was at the core of all he valued. His love for his wife, Susan, lead to a 25-year marriage that was full of laughter and devotion. The special bond between them was apparent to anyone that knew them. Whatever life gave them, they faced it together and never ever let go of one another.
Drew and Courtney were blessed to have a father whose love had no limit. His aspiration to protect them and enhance their world started the moment he held them and never waivered even as they made their way into adulthood. Drew chose to be by his dad's side every day over the past year, returning that same level of love and protection during such a difficult time. Courtney brought a happiness to his world that was indescribable while raising his precious grandsons.
Mike's retirement from UPS came too soon. His UPS family meant the world to him. His larger-than-life personality was always on display: he was always watching out for others, the first to kick off a celebration, and the guy everyone knew they could count on.
Michael was never happier than when his children and grandchildren (his "pride and joy") gathered at their home for holidays, big games, or just because they wanted to hang out. Ethan and Eli were adored by their fun-loving Pappy. Many weekends were filled with jokes, board games, grilling, movies and sports – oh, were there sports! Michael appreciated life's simple joys – old movies, a Cardinals victory, It's a Wonderful Life, a classic Andy Griffith episode, a well-grilled hamburger (meat and bread only!). Music also brought him considerable joy: his tastes were eclectic, but he especially loved Bob Dylan, John Prine, and playing Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" several hundred times each Christmas until his family politely begged him to stop.
Michael's love was pure and his family and friends felt it through and through. His commitment to family set an example and made a lasting impression on his loved ones, leaving a legacy that will be felt for generations.
He will be dearly missed. We love you "higher than the sky" and always will.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at Rose Mann Chapel (6200 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919) on Sunday, December 12th from 3:00-5:00pm, with a service being held at 4:30 PM.
