Michael Crowley Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by McGorray-Hanna Funeral Homes of Lakewood on Oct. 10, 2024.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of MICHAEL SEAN CROWLEY on October 3, 2024 at the age of 51.
Michael was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 19, 1973. He is the loving son of the late James Crowley and Lenore Chapman (Richard, deceased), and the best brother to Shannon Crowley. He is a beloved nephew and cousin to many. He is also godfather to Nicholas (14), Stella (11) and Charlotte (4) Carny.
After graduating from the first class of Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School, Michael enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served for six years as a Nuclear Electrician. Upon completion of his service, Michael enrolled in Cleveland State University. It was there that he joined Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, Delta Epsilon chapter, and he served as their president 2000-2001. Through this fraternity, Michael met a host of brothers and established friendships that he cherished until his passing.
Michael was a kind, genuine man who loved people. He seemed to excel most when he served people, whether it was at First Federal of Lakewood, Dairymens, or Travel Centers of America, he sought to make friends with his co-workers and make his customers smile. Most recently, he was proud to work at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland as a Law Enforcement Technician.
In October 2015, Michael suffered a brain-stem stroke that created physical challenges to his life. However, he was determined to enjoy a full, fulfilled life. He began by reaching out to distant family and friends to re-establish active relationships. He also started writing letters to encourage the troops. Michael always looked for ways to improve or accelerate his recovery. He joined a local stroke support group (Reset); there he established new friendships with people who had similar journeys, and sought diligently to encourage and inspire stroke survivors to continue in their healing process. Through Reset, Michael was introduced to The Turn, a nonprofit organization that enhances physical and emotional well-being of people living with disabilities. Michael began golfing at The Turn and picked up a love for golf. (If you asked him, he would tell you his game is "garbage," but he loved it all the same). The community that he found in Reset and The Turn became like an extension of his family that he loved. In June of 2024, Michael was named The Turn's "Player of the Year."
In July of 2024, while driving to work, Michael suffered a second stroke. Even while facing this new hurdle, Michael worked hard in his recovery, and never lost his joy for life. He looked forward to seeing improvement in his condition, and he did. He welcomed friends and visitors with his bright smile. His resilience and kindness, and gratitude for life increased each day, and he genuinely impacted his care team at the hospital with his gentleness and determination. He brought sunshine everywhere he went.
Michael passed away suddenly on October 3, 2024.
