Michael Dean Featherston

Michael Dean Featherston, 54, passed away on August 5, 2023 in Nashville, TN. Michael was born on February 12, 1969 in Salisbury, North Carolina. He attended the Baylor School and was a 1987 graduate of Salisbury High School. Michael graduated from East Carolina University in 1992, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After college, Michael pursued his passion for fine cuisine by studying to become a Sommelier and working in leading restaurants across the country.

Michael was a devoted son and brother and was preceded in death by his best friend and brother, Andrew Featherston, his father, Dean Featherston, and his mother Patricia (Sellers) Featherston, all of Salisbury, North Carolina. He is survived by many cousins and his extensive network of friends from coast to coast. Michael was especially close with friends he made during childhood, high school and college and was diligent about ensuring that time and distance did not diminish their bond.

Michael had many passions. He loved UNC basketball, dogs of all kinds--especially English Bulldogs and German Shorthair Pointers--and loved live music. His German Shorthair Pointer, Paddy, was his pride and joy. He loved Paddy and gave her an amazing life, exploring dog parks on a daily basis and ensuring that she was the most treasured pet in the world. Living in Nashville enabled Michael to enjoy many concerts and he always looked forward to spending time with friends while enjoying great music. Michael had the opportunity to live in many beautiful places, including Napa Valley, St. Thomas USVI, and Wrightsville Beach. He was most recently planning to move to Mexico, where he no doubt would have soaked up the sun and sea and found some great live music to enjoy with friends new and old alike. Michael was quick witted, generous, made friends easily, and held onto them dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Michael's honor at The Heritage Room, 118 East Council Street, Salisbury, NC, on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 3:00 pm.
