Obituary
Michael L. Feeney, 77, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on September 12, 2023, surrounded by his family after fighting a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Mike was born on December 20, 1945, to Lester and Ruth Feeney in Defiance, Ohio. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Bette Jo Rozsa Feeney; four children: Libby (Charlie) Steiner, Michael (Ashley) Feeney, Hayley (Brian) Hargrove, Patrick Feeney; nine grandchildren: Eddie and Abbey Steiner, Kylie, Michael, Chloe and Piper Feeney, Owen McLoughlin, Hannah and Andrew Hargrove; brother, Nelson Feeney, sisters, Iris (Tony) Villoch and Beth (Dan) March; numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Mike attended Defiance High School and Defiance College, and proudly served in the US Navy as a nuclear reactor operator on the Ulysses S Grant submarine. He went on to be an accountant/controller at various companies, ultimately retiring from R.S. Hanline in 2010. He loved spending time at their Seneca Lake home where he enjoyed boating, water sports, and relaxing around the fire sharing stories and laughter with family and friends. Whether he was walking the beach during winters in Anna Maria Island or sitting on the back patio with blueberry coffee, he enjoyed listening to audiobooks and birdwatching. An athlete himself, Mike always liked watching football (Ohio State and Detroit Lions) and wrestling. His greatest joy, however, was watching his children and grandchildren participate in their sports, and he cherished spending quality time with his family. He was a selfless man who would do anything for you without a second thought and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Many have been inspired by his unwavering determination and fighting spirit, qualities that blessed us with seven additional years with him beyond his original prognosis. Special thanks to Dr. Sumithira Vasu at the James Cancer Hospital and Dr. Courtney DiNardo at MD Anderson for helping him do this through the numerous clinical trials and treatments that will benefit others in the future. Visitation will be Sunday, September 17, 2023, from 2:00pm-6:00pm at Egan-Ryan Northwest Chapel (4661 Kenny Rd Columbus OH). Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am Monday, September 18, 2023, at St Andrew Catholic Church (1899 McCoy Rd. Columbus OH), with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Lewis Center OH. Those wishing to contribute to Mike's memory In lieu of flowers may want to consider the Leukemia And Lymphoma Society or the James Cancer Hospital.
