Michael David Fisher, known to all as Mike, embarked on his final journey to the great beyond on September 30, 2025, leaving behind a legacy filled with laughter, love, and a peculiar penchant for cold-blooded creatures. Born in the winter chill of Des Plaines, IL, on February 5, 1970, Mike's zest for life warmed the hearts of those around him until his last days in scenic Rossford, OH.
Mike's life was one heck of a ride, complete with all the twists, turns, and loop-de-loops you'd expect from a man who lived life at full throttle. On August 14, 1999 Mike married the love of his life, Candy Hansford who survives. He was the proud patriarch of a brood that could easily double as a zoo crew, with his daughter Abigail-Alice, son Zachary (Gabryelle Lopez), and daughter Madison, not to mention about 100 reptiles that he nurtured with the same dedication as his own flesh and blood. His sister Sigrid Fisher-Martin and half-brothers Chris and Garland Fisher II, along with three spirited nephews, survive him. Mike now joins the celestial family reunion, preceding him in death are his mom Cheryl Kay, dad Dave Fisher, grandparents Alice and Ken Holcomb, and daughters Faith and Rebecca Fisher.
Armed with an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice from Phoenix University, Mike's career path was as flavorful as the menu items at the restaurants he worked with over the years. He was the maestro behind the grill, the wizard of the fryer, and even snagged the golden bell award from Taco Bell. That win wasn't just a shiny plaque; it came with a ticket to Hawaii, which, knowing Mike, was probably spent trying to teach lizards to surf.
As General Manager for TA Petro, Mike was the oil that kept the gears running smoothly, the friendly face that greeted truckers at dawn, and the last to lock up after the midnight oil had burnt out. But it wasn't all work and no play for Mike. He was a man of faith and fists, spending eighteen chapters in a religious club that just happened to share a name with a certain cult classic film, Fight Club. "The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club." But let's just say, Mike's version was less about bruising and more about schmoozing with the man upstairs.
His hobbies were as explosive as his personality; building and launching model rockets high enough to knock on heaven's door. Mike was also a motorcycle-riding, wind-in-your-hair, freedom-on-two-wheels kind of guy. And if that wasn't enough to rev your engine, he shared a special bond with his daughter Madison, racing RC cars as if they were training for the miniature Grand Prix.
In the spirit of Mike's humorous approach to life, let's recall the words of the great Robin Williams, "You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it." Mike not only kept his spark but turned it into a bonfire that illuminated the lives of everyone around him.
Mike Fisher's life story is better than any stand-up comedy routine, filled with more joy than a belly laugh, and more heart than a standing ovation. He was a father, a brother, a friend, and a mentor, but above all, he was the life of the party, and oh, what a party it's been. Mike, here's to you, the man who lived life like a firework, going out with a spectacular bang that will echo in our hearts forever.
A celebration of life will be held at 4pm, Friday, October 10, 2025 at Graceland Cemetery Chapel, 1505 E. Morthland Drive, Valparaiso (219) 462-3511. A visitation will be held from 2pm until service time.
