Michael Flunker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kessler Fahrenkrug Funeral Home - Neenah on Sep. 25, 2024.
If you're reading this, I've run my last alarm, dropped my last tree and closed the door on my final scene exam and I'm at peace with it. Born in Appleton, WI September 27, 1959 the second son of four boys to Ernie and Elaine Flunker. I'd never thought a rare brain cancer, glioblastoma, would take me out, but God had his plan. I put up a fight for 23 months and as the sun sets on my time here on planet Earth, I reflect; raised in farm and country settings I enjoyed outdoor activities the woods and work in the Fremont and Appleton areas. I graduated Hortonville High School in 1977 and earned Associate Degrees at Fox Valley Tech College. I lived in the Phoenix, AZ area about a year and returned to work for Neenah Fire Department (Neenah Menasha Fire Rescue) for 32 years retiring as Shift Commander. In retirement I worked in the fire investigation field for Cal Phillipps Fire Inv. and my own LLC Flashpoint Consulting and I also operated a tree service, The Tree Guy LLC, these ventures brought to conclusion in 2022 due to health. My free time was filled with family, friends, youth sports coaching and 22 summers at a life changing MDA summer camp volunteer experience.
In my wake I leave my wonderfully loving, kind, caring, compassionate wife Tiffani, six children Matthew (Rachel) Flunker, Lexie (Kyle) Higgins (Ronald "Bug" Higgins and Ginnie "Squeek" Higgins), Allie Strullmyer, Ande Strullmyer, Zachary Strullmyer, and Jordan Mascal. Mother Elaine Flunker, parents-in-law Ron and Tanis Marquardt, sister-in-law Melanie (Cyrus) Simcoe (Ronald, Audrey, and Amelie), brothers-in-law Nicholas (Dianne) Marquardt (Stephen and Frankie), Guy (Linda) Marquardt (David, Holly, Sarah, and John), brothers Gerry (Amber) Flunker (Max, Miles), Randy (Holly) Flunker (Luke, Kyle, and Brooke), and sister-in-law Grace Flunker (Ryan and Kari). Preceding me to eternal life are my father Ernest and brother Mark Flunker.
In retrospect I'd like to think that when it needed to be done it was done well, when a hand was asked a hand was given and that family and friends were warmly held. I thank God for every day given me here and that he bless you all with his grace. Peace to all and my out-the-door reminder "to be nicer than you have to be." - Mikey
