Michael Freer, a treasured soul known for his warmth and endearing smile, passed away on July 26, 2025, in Richmond, Kentucky. Born on December 6, 1951, in Monroe, Michigan, Michael's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his loved ones and an avid passion for the simpler pleasures life had to offer.

Michael's formative years were filled with the love and guidance of his parents, Bruce and Mary Nagel Freer. He carried their values and teachings with him as he paved his path in the world. His life was further enriched when he met and married Verna, with whom he shared 23 years. Together, they created a life filled with joy and companionship.

Michael's journey was shared with his stepchildren, Sean Casey (Nancy) and their children, and Leslie Casey Bollinger and her children. He is survived by his sisters, Sandy Weinstein (Ira) of Arnold, Maryland, Barbara Kromm (Roger) of Petoskey, Michigan, and Penny Tischendorf (Al) of Ossineke, Michigan. Michael also held a special place for his aunt, uncle, and his nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will treasure their memories of him.

An avid golfer, Michael found serenity on the greens, where he channeled the patience and focus that also defined his character. His skill on the golf course was matched only by his expertise at the grill, where he was known to cook up a feast for family and friends. His grilling was more than a hobby; it was an expression of his love, a way to gather loved ones and create moments that would last a lifetime.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Condolences may be left at www.lakesfuneralhome.com
