Michael George, 73, of Mentor-on-the-Lake, passed away peacefully at his home on May 23, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 2, 1951 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Michael made Lake County his home for the past 32 years.
Michael was the beloved husband of Donna George (née Krall), and the devoted father of Amy George and Deanna George. His love for his family was boundless, and his presence brought warmth and laughter to every moment. Michael also shared a deep bond with his sister, Laura Bennett Carter, and was a cherished uncle to Nicole Martineau, Corinne Schaffer, Richard Martineau, Victoria Wood, and Kimberly Gilson. He was a proud great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Dolores George, and his dear nephew, Jonathan Martineau.
To many beyond his immediate family, Michael was affectionately known as "Dad." He served as a father figure to countless friends, offering wisdom, kindness, and a patient ear. His selfless spirit and unwavering support made him a trusted rock in the lives of those who knew him.
Michael proudly served in the U.S. Navy for four years before beginning a long and dedicated career with the Cleveland Clinic, where he worked for 37 years as a hospital administrator and in the financial department. His professional life was marked by integrity, commitment, and a heart for service.
Michael lived life with joy and intention. He had an extraordinary ability to make others smile and laugh, often through playful antics and practical jokes-famously leaving a Frankenstein mask in the freezer to surprise unsuspecting family members. His passions were as colorful as his signature Marvin the Martian socks or Mr. Magoo tie. He loved old black-and-white films-especially The Thin Man and The Little Rascals-gardening, scratch-off lottery tickets, crafting, amusement parks, and roller coasters.
He was deeply connected to animals, a trait that aligned him closely with St. Francis, and was a devoted caretaker of both pets and wildlife in his yard. He took special delight in family camping trips to Jelly Stone in Mantua, creating memories that his children and loved ones will cherish forever.
Above all, Michael was a man who loved fiercely, gave freely, and brought joy to every room he entered. His legacy is one of laughter, love, and enduring kindness.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Michael's life at the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center Street, Mentor, OH, on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.
