Michael David Gherke, age 29, passed away on July 29, 2024. (He went by David to his family and Michael to friends. For clarity, we will call him David here.) David was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on February 20, 1995, to Shelly Kay Gherke (née Hykes) and Michael Eugene Gherke. He was a graduate of Hempfield High School and briefly took classes at Glenville State University.
David met his wife, Kayllyn, at a coffee shop. They were married on October 7, 2021, in a private ceremony in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Their son, Paris Jude Gherke, was born August 13, 2022, looking just like David did as a baby. We are deeply saddened that David did not get to meet his daughter, Daisy, born August 6, 2024, but she and her brother will know of their father's love through their mother, family, and friends. David loved his family immensely. Music was David's passion. He played guitar and sang with many friends and family members. He was also talented at various other instruments, as well as repairing guitars in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife, Kayllyn, and two children, Paris and Daisy, his father, Michael, and his sister, Rachel. His aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends also deeply mourn David's passing.
Friends are welcome to gather with family for a service on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 11:00AM at the First United Methodist Church, 29 E Walnut St, Lancaster, Pennsylvania 17602. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM. While flowers are appreciated, the family requests donations to help support Paris and Daisy.
