Michael Joseph Gray, age 47, of East Walpole, formerly of Mission Hill, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 14, 2025. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 7, 1977, he is the beloved son of the late Mary Cecelia (Harrington) Gray, and Peter J. Gray, Sr. of Foxborough. He was raised in the Mission Hill neighborhood of Boston, attending the Mission Grammar School. Michael continued his education at the Newman School in Boston's Back Bay and as a teenager began working at the New England Baptist Hospital in the dietary department. Following his graduation from Newman Prep with the class of 1995, Michael enrolled in courses at Salem State College and continued his career with the Baptist Hospital, taking a position with security.
Working at the New England Baptist Hospital meant the world to Michael, as he was able to work alongside his mother, Mary, for many years, until her retirement. Michael and Mary were truly best friends, and it was no secret to his brothers and sister, he was her favorite as well. They spent countless hours together, they enjoyed traveling around town on a Saturday, running errands, and listening to the "Irish Hour" on WROL.
Michael's career with the Baptist Hospital continued to grow and he eventually took on the role of Operating Room Surgical Technician, ensuring the operating rooms were properly stocked. He remained with the hospital until 2020, when he took a job with Shields Health Surgery Center in Shrewsbury, as Purchasing Coordinator, using his knowledge of surgical inventory to ensure all the necessary supplies were on hand for surgeries. Around the same time, Michael left the city, making his home in the suburban town of East Walpole.
While he might have left the city behind, Michael never lost his love for his hometown, especially the sports teams of Boston. He was an avid Red Sox and Celtics fan, often attending games and standing behind the teams through the good years and bad. Michael's love for basketball led him to becoming the biggest Duke University fan, cheering for the Blue Devils while often attending games when they were in town. His passion for the Blue Devils was shared with his nephew and Godson, Ryan, whom he showered with Duke memorabilia and gear. The pair loved watching games and sharing stats, soaking up all that the Duke Men's Basketball program had to offer.
Throughout his life, Michael maintained a tight knit group of friends from high school, gathering often to share stories about days gone by and talk about where their paths had led. As a group, they enjoyed going to concerts, traveling together, visiting many warm destinations including Costa Rica and Mexico. Back at home, Michael loved spending the day shopping. He was on the hunt for the perfect outfit or a pair of sneakers to add to his ever-growing collection. Shopping did not end with clothes and sneakers, but rather carried through to his car buying experiences, exclusively with Jeep. Michael owned every kind of Jeep over the years, from Wranglers to Grand Cherokees, he was totally in love with the brand.
Loving brother of his twin Peter Gray Jr. and his wife Colleen of East Walpole, Sean Gray and his wife Lisa of Brockton, Karen Kelly and her husband Kevin of Foxborough.
Cherished uncle of Ryan, Madison, Lily, Ashlyn, Deirdre and Rowan Gray, and Alyssa, Matthew, and Christopher Kelly.
Loved Godson of his “fairy Godmother” Gail Bach, of North Haven, Maine.
Also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins in Ireland.
Michael was kind, caring and compassionate, he did not have a mean bone in his body, he will be sorely missed by all his friends and relatives, especially his twin brother Peter.
