A cherished father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 4, 2024, at his home. Age 70 years. Born on December 16, 1953, in Saginaw, Michigan, Mike was the beloved son of the late Erwin and Doris (O'Polka) Grunwell. On May 17, 1975, Mike married Karen Thick, and they shared 35 wonderful years together until her passing on September 6, 2010. Mike's enduring love and devotion to Karen was a testament to the beautiful life they built. A skilled and dedicated mason, Mike owned and operated MG Masonry for nearly 40 years, leaving his mark on countless structures throughout the area. Mike had a love for the outdoors, finding joy in hunting and fishing excursions in Rose City and treasured times at the family cottage in Au Gres. Known for his warmth, sense of humor, and love of storytelling, Mike was a pillar of strength and comfort to his family. His grandchildren, in particular, will remember him for always having the best snacks and captivating tales.
Mike is survived by his loving children, Michael (Alex Worthington) Grunwell, Bay City, and Alison (John) Landosky, Auburn; his five grandchildren, Colin and Peyton Grunwell, Alfonso Ramirez and Lee and John Landosky, who were the lights of his life. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Cindy Hartwig; his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Gail (Kevin) Juett, Joseph (Linda) Thick, and Michelle Thick, along with many cherished nieces and nephews. Mike now joins in eternal peace the love of his life, Karen, as well as his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Nancy Thick, Ed Parsons, and Tom Thick.
Honoring Mr. Grunwell's wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends will share memories at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 11, 2024 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). Friends may visit at the funeral home where the family will be present on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Cancer Society.
