With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Michael "Mike" E. Hack, a loving and devoted husband and father, who left us peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2024. Mike was born on March 6, 1945, in Battle Creek, Michigan to the late Marvin and Betty (Barnes) Hack. Mike grew up with his sister, Kay Smith and brother, Dan (Mark Davis) Hack. He graduated from Lakeview High School in the class of 1963 and then earned an Associates degree from Kellogg Community College. Mike met the love of his life, Annette Deling on a blind date just after he graduated high school. They later found out from Annette's mother that they had played together as young children. The couple married on June 17, 1967, in Battle Creek and later moved to Grand Rapids to start their lives together.
Mike's impact will continue to live on through the many lives he touched. He was a true craftsman taking great pride in his over three decades of work as a Tool & Die Maker at General Motors in Grand Rapids. Mike was always working on a project and was dedicated to getting it just right - whether building a garage, fixing an appliance or creating a busy board. Mike was exceedingly patient and an excellent teacher. He made sure his daughters grew up to be self reliant women who could handle things on their own. Mike was a role model to many and a testament to the quote from Henry Ford, "Quality means doing it right when no one is looking."
Mike's true love was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Annette Hack, with whom he shared 57 beautiful years of marriage. Together they shared a love of their property "Up North" near Fountain taking frequent trips to explore the treasures off the beaten path, fishing at Round Lake and sharing ice cream from the House of Flavors. He was the proud father of Angela (Steve) Holt, Heidi (Mark) Maskell, and Heather (Junsun) Bush. He was the best Papa to his grandchildren, Brianne (Andrew) VanderHelm, Devon (Molly) Holt, Andrea (Jake) Fielstra, and Cassendra (Nick Light) Bush. His family tree continued to grow when he became a Great Papa to his great granddaughters, Migwen "Peanut" and Kennedy "The Little One". Mike spent countless hours supporting his daughters and grandchildren at any and all events they participated in from hockey and baseball to theater, band and dance. His love for his family was profound, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Michael will be remembered for his unwavering love, his infectious laughter, and his generous spirit.
In accordance with Mike's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith Hospice (click the link below to donate on line). The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods for their care and compassion throughout this difficult time.
We invite you to leave your tributes, share your memories, and upload photos to the memorial page. Each memory shared is a precious gift that will help keep Michael's spirit alive in our hearts and minds.
