Michael S. Heesters Sr.

Michael S. Heesters, Sr., age 84, of Hockessin, DE passed away peacefully on December 20th, 2025. A lifelong native of Wilmington, Michael was the son of the late Frances (Mealey) and John N. "Jack" Heesters. He graduated from Salesianum School as a member of the class of 1960. Mike spent over 15 years working for Mealey Funeral Homes in Wilmington prior to beginning his career in sales at Norel Plastics. He was a member of the Delaware National Guard. Mike was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid sports watcher. He assisted and enjoyed coaching his son's soccer and baseball teams. He also liked spending time at the beach in Lewes, DE with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his son, Michael S. Heesters, Jr. in 2024. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley (Frederick) Heesters; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Scott Kreps; his daughter-in-law, Katie Heesters; his grandchildren, Ryan and Tyler Kreps; his brothers, John N. (Marianne) Heesters, Jr., and Nicholas P. (Lois) Heesters; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday December 30th from 10 A.M to 11 A.M. with funeral services beginning at 11 A.M at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mike's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
