Michael S. Heesters Jr.

Michael S. Heesters, Jr., age 43, passed away after a battle with cancer surrounded by his family on March 1st, 2024.
Born in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of Shirley (Frederick) and Michael Heesters, Sr. After graduation from Alexis I. DuPont High School, Michael earned his bachelor's and doctorate's degree in pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh. During his time at the University of Pittsburgh, he met his future wife, Katie. Upon graduation from the University of Pittsburgh, Michael began his career as a pharmacist for several years before pursuing his law degree at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon conclusion of law school, Michael became a patent attorney. Subsequently, he became an Assistant U.S. District Attorney and, most recently, as corporate counsel in pharmaceuticals.
Michael had a love of the outdoors and was a world traveler, having traveled with Katie to Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, among other world destinations. He also enjoyed spending time at the beach, especially his annual trips to Lewes, Delaware. He loved surfing, particularly on the beaches of Hawaii and Puerto Rico. He also enjoyed mountain biking, soccer, and had recently taken up fly fishing.
Michael is survived by his wife of 16 years, Katie Wang; his parents, Shirley and Michael Heesters, Sr.; his sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Scott Kreps; his nephews, Ryan and Tyler Kreps; his mother and father-in-law, Sulan and Lian Fu; his brother-in-law, David; and his beloved cat, Leeann.
A visitation will be held at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808, on Friday March 8th from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M with funeral services beginning at 11 A.M. Burial will be held privately. Online condolences may be made to mealeyfuneralhomes.com.
