Michael Todd Herbert

Michael Todd Herbert was born on April 9, 1948, in Colorado Springs, Colorado and died peacefully on May 18, 2022, in Dayton, Ohio at Hospice of Dayton following a lengthy fight with cancer. Unfortunately, the cancer ultimately won, but Mike sure gave it hell while he could, thanks to the support and caregiving of his two sons, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and several special friends Roger Nestle, Tom Williams, Barb Norris and Ronnie Vance. Michael and his family had the pleasure of a living wake, at Hospice of Dayton, at his request. So many kind friends, former coworkers, and family came to visit Michael during the last two weeks of his life and as usual, he was the life of the party.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents Phyllis Marilyn and Bernard Hall Herbert, his wife Cheryl Eileen (Cooper), and grandson Nigel Ilan Herbert. Michael is survived by his two sons, Scott Alan (Laura), and Todd Andrew and grandchildren Eileen Michiko, Michael Phillip, Aidan Scott, Simon David, and Lillian James Herbert. He is also survived by his Brothers Greg Herbert, and Tony (Penny) Herbert, and sister Kristin (Troy) Maurer, brother-in-law David (Cathy) Cooper, and sister-in-law Joyce Whitt, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
The child of a Military Man, Mike and his family lived in many locations in the U.S. and Spain. Mike graduated from Fairborn High School in 1966, married Cheryl, became a father, and started working at Dayton, Power, & Light. He retired after 52 years, working as a lineman/team lead. He was an avid reader, loved to play golf, tennis, bowl, softball, darts, ping pong, as well as weightlifting and fly fishing in Montana. Mike was a Reds, Buckeye's, Bengals, and WSU Basketball fan. Mike played guitar and loved music, a passion he shared with his children. He and Cheryl enjoyed traveling with friends and family, taking several cruises and of course trips to one of his favorite places, Montana.
Mike could always see something good in everyone. He lived and died with dignity and strength.
