Michael Scott Hess of Central Point, Oregon, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Scott was born on August 14, 1949, in Medford, Oregon, and grew up in the Rogue Valley, graduating from Medford High School in 1967. He went on to attend Oregon Technical Institute, earning his degree in 1969.
Scott’s first marriage to Jana Hart blessed him with their children, Gregg and Erik, with whom he shared many cherished memories. Later in life, he found love again with his wife, Sharon Coffman, who remained by his side throughout his later adventures and during his final days.
Scott spent 40 years as a dedicated table and game technician. A career in which his steady hands, sharp mind, and easygoing nature made him a trusted colleague and a valued friend.
He will be remembered most for his warm, unforgettable smile—one that could light up a room and put anyone at ease. Scott loved golfing with friends, fishing the rivers and lakes of the Rogue Valley, and on the open ocean along the Oregon Coast. He and his wife, Sharon, treasured their travels through the West in their RV, always seeking new scenery, quiet moments, and a bit of adventure. After retirement, they purchased a beach house on the Oregon Coast. A special place they lovingly fixed up together with their family and turned into their peaceful coastal getaway, where they enjoyed ocean views, fresh sea air, and walking their dogs on the beach.
Scott is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; his sister, Vicki; his son, Erik (Christy); daughter-in-law, Teresa; stepsons, Scott and Ryan (Kylie); stepdaughters, Tracey and Jennifer (Deven); and grandchildren, Jillian, Caden, Nolan, Greyson, and Charlie, all of whom deeply loved their Papa Scott. He was preceded in death by his son, Gregg, his daughter, Tammy, and his grandson, David.
Though his family mourns his loss, they carry Scott’s memory with immense love, gratitude, and the comfort of the many moments shared with him. His life was filled with simple joys, quiet strength, and a generosity of spirit that touched everyone who knew him. Scott will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Scott on Saturday, January 24th at 1:00 pm. The service and reception will be held at the Medford Estates Clubhouse: 3555 S. Pacific Hwy in Medford
