On August 7, 2024 of Jessup, MD. Beloved husband of Barbara Hooper of 19 years. Michael “Mike” was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick J. Hooper, Sr. and Ann C. Hooper; brothers Frederick J. Hooper, Jr. and Robert W. Hooper; niece, Jill Hooper and nephew, Robert Hooper, Jr.
Mike was born on October 28, 1959 in Leonardtown, MD. He grew up in Hyattsville, MD with his parents and 3 brothers. As a child, his family spent many summers camping in West Virginia.
Mike graduated Northwestern High School in 1978. He worked in Loss Prevention at Giant Food for 45 years. He was a lifelong member of Bladensburg Fire Department since September of 1980, serving in many ranks and roles throughout his tenure. Mike was well-respected by his fellow firefighter comrades. He was known for his good sense of humor, kindness, and genuine spirit. He truly had never met a stranger and was well-liked by everyone who knew him.
His favorite past times were spending time at the fire house or at the beach.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; brother, Kenneth Hooper; nieces Amber, Tabitha, Brandy, and Jennifer, as well as several other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
The family will receive friends at Gasch’s Funeral Home located at 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD 20781 on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, MD. Bladensburg Fire Department will host a repast at 4213 Edmonston Road, Bladensburg, MD immediately following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to Bladensburg Fire Department in his honor.
