It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Charles Istre, beloved father and husband, who left us peacefully on June 27, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on December 10, 1950, in Jennings, Louisiana, Michael spent his life in Mermentau, where he was a beloved figure in his community and a treasured member of his family.
He is survived by his children: Miranda (Doris, Jr.) Trahan and their children, Micah, Myah and Drew; Cedric (Tracy) Istre and children, Brittni, Josh, Ethan, Madison, Christian and Michael; Brandon (Valerie) Istre and children, Colby, Victoria, Alexander and Gracie; Tregg Istre and children Avery, Braeden, Isabella, Gabrielle, Olivia, London, Elodie and Emerie; Kimberly Istre and children, Malachi, Noah, Gabriel and Brady; Michelle (Joseph, Jr.) Hall and children, Logan and Ella; and Rachel (Luke) Broussard and child, Loni. He is also survived by his dear siblings: sister, Bonnie Dugas; brothers, Kenneth (Becky) Istre and Ricky (Darla) Istre; sister, Lois (Lane) Seaux; sister-in-law, Faye Istre; and six great grandchildren, Carter, Cove, Anayla, Ava, Stetson and Milyah Bea.
In his professional life, Michael worked as a switch operator in the railroad industry, a job that he took great pride in. He possessed profound knowledge, deep wisdom and devout reverence, with an astute sense of wittiness. A true lover of life, you could often find him enjoying good times at Cest Bon or cooking up a storm in the kitchen, always sharing meals with family and friends. He was also a fervent LSU fan, cheering for his team with enthusiasm. He loved the Lord and served him faithfully but most of all, he cherished his family especially his grandchildren which brought such joy to his life.
The family will welcome friends to gather at Miguez Funeral Home on Sunday June 29, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Monday June 30, 2025, at the funeral home from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held on Monday beginning at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Jamie Tyler officiating.
He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife in Mermentau Memorial Cemetery.
Michael leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the joy of family. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Michael was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Istre; parents, Charles Istre and Beatrice Istre, beloved brother, Terrell Istre; father-in-law; John Shug Seaux and mother-in-law, Joyce Gay Seaux.
Carrying him to his final place of rest will be, Cedric Istre, Brandon Istre, Tregg Istre, Doris Trahan Jr., Jospeh Hall and Luke Broussard. Honorary Pallberears will be all of his grandsons.
