Michael Weston Janus, age 55, passed away on Tuesday evening, February 15, 2022, surrounded by his family.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John and Joan Janus, of Biloxi, MS.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Nathalie "Talie" Janus, and his two daughters, Hannah and Sarah Janus, of Biloxi, MS; his sister, Jennifer (Ken) Lockridge, and their children Connor, Corey and Cameron, all from Loganville, GA; his sister-in-law, Nikki Nolte and her children, Emilee and Will Nolte of Biloxi, MS; and nieces and nephews, Buddy and Stella Bass, of D'Iberville, MS.
Michael was born in 1966 in Charleston, SC. Being born into a military family, he spent time in various locations around the world. After retiring in 1978, the Janus family returned home to Biloxi, MS, where Michael spent the remaining years of his life. Michael graduated from Biloxi High School in 1984, then pursued a bachelor's degree in Political Science at South Alabama and a master's degree in Public Administration at the University of Mississippi. In addition to marrying Talie and bringing two beautiful daughters into this world, Michael pursued his love of serving his community. He ran and subsequently won a seat in the MS House of Representatives for District 117. After he served his constituents for 14 years, he returned home and served as the City Manager for D'Iberville. During his time as a City Manager, Michael additionally served as Chief of Staff for Congressman Steven Palazzo. After serving publicly, Michael entered the private sector and went to work for Southern Living Services.
Michael devoted most of his time volunteering for several different civic organizations, including the American Legislative Exchange Council, Youth Business Leaders Association (past President), Biloxi Bay Chamber of Commerce (past
Vice-President), Boy's and Girl's Club (past President and Board Member), Knights of Columbus, Leadership Gulf Coast (Class of 2000), Boy Scouts of America (past District Chairman), Harrison County Council of Government (past Chairman), Hands on Gulf Coast (Board Member), Salvation Army (Board Member), and Harrison County Republican Executive Committee (Board Member).
Out of all the many roles and titles that Michael held in his life, the ones that he held most dear to his heart were that of son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Biloxi, from 10:00 am until 11:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Our Lady of Fatima, [email protected].

Rest peacefully my friend. You will be missed by many. My love and prayers are with the family. May you also find peace in God's grace.

I had the pleasure of working with Michael when he started at Southern Living Services (on the insurance side). Insurance isn't always the most exciting topic. If Michael thought the same, he never let on. He was always so friendly, even while filling out 20 page insurance applications. I knew I could count on him. He's work ethic was (and still is) inspiring, to say the least. I'm lucky to have had the pleasure of working with him.

May all your memories (and those memories written here) help you through this difficult time.
