It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Louis Johnson, aged 78, on September 30, 2025. Born on October 21, 1946, in Omaha, Nebraska, Michael lived a life full of service and love, ultimately making his home in American Fork, Utah.
Michael was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Johnson; his children, Nicole (Sven) Menssen, Mike (Jolene) Johnson, and Kristin Tudsandos; twelve cherished grandchildren; his brother, Scott (Connie) Johnson; and his sisters, Kathleen Lee and Angie (Chuck) Credeur. He was preceded in death by his parents,Thomas and Jeanne Johnson, as well as his daughter, Tanya.
A proud Army veteran, Michael served his country with distinction and carried that same spirit of service into all areas of his life. He earned a Master's Degree and pursued a successful career as a budget analyst and financial controller in the Department of Defense, where he contributed his talents for the greater good.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael's life was deeply rooted in service, especially through the Boy Scouts of America. He dedicated countless hours to helping youth complete merit badges and earn their Eagle Awards, and his devotion earned him the prestigious Silver Beaver Award for distinctive service.
His commitment to service extended beyond his career and Scouts to his children's and grandchildren's schools, where he was active in the PTA, and to his faith community, where he served as an ordinance worker in the Frankfurt, Germany; San Antonio, Texas; and Mount Timpanogos, Utah temples. He served two full-time missions and four service missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He faithfully fulfilled numerous leadership callings in his LDS wards and stakes.
That same spirit of service carried into his personal life. Michael's passion for the outdoors was evident in his love for camping, and he embraced the thrill of skiing as a member of the National Ski Patrol while living in Germany. He also valued safety and resilience, serving as a lifeguard in his early years and later in life partnering with his wife as members of a CERT team.
In this time of sorrow, we remember Michael Louis Johnson with gratitude for his unwavering dedication, service, and the joy he brought to all who knew him. He leaves behind a rich legacy of compassion, commitment to service, and a love for family that will continue to inspire us all.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Michael's life and legacy at the Hillcrest 6th Ward, 1120 North 150 West, American Fork, Utah, on October 6, 2025.
