Michael C. Kallan, 82, of Haverhill formerly of Newton and Scituate died on March 28, 2025 following a period of declining health.
Born in Boston, Michael was the son of the late Dr. Alphonse C and Harriet (Lyons) Kallan. He was raised in Newton and North Scituate and served our country in the U. S. Army during the pre-Vietnam era. He is survived by his sister Sheila Keegan, her husband Arthur Keegan of Naples, Florida and his nephews and nieces Ted, Kathleen, Brian and Elizabeth as well as many dear friends including Michael Dowling and George Earley.
Michael was a graduate of Boston College and attended New York University in the fields of Economics and Finance. He worked for Penn Central followed by the Boston and Maine Railroad where he was Marketing Director. Subsequently and until the time of his retirement, he served as a systems administrator with the Federal Internal Revenue Service.
An avid sports fan and physical fitness advocate, Mike loved to play golf. He was a member of the Merrimack Valley Country Club in Methuen and former member of the Hatherly Country Club in Scituate. He was also a former member of the Skating Club of Boston and was an enthusiastic Bruins fan. He enjoyed hiking and long-distance bike riding. In addition to regular library visits his mental gymnastics included the weekly New York Times crossword puzzle which he claims to have struggled with but nonetheless completed in ink.
Always willing to go the extra mile to help others, Mike was particularly fond of "Rule 62" -never taking himself too seriously- and had this as his license plate for many years encouraging others to do the same.
His Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday April 16, 2025 at 11:30am in St. Michael Church, 196 Main Street, North Andover. Interment will follow in his family's plot at Holyhood Cemetery, 584 Heath Street, Brookline.
