Michael Kuchman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc. on Dec. 16, 2024.
Michael John Kuchman III, 79, of East Fishkill, passed away peacefully at his home on December 5, 2024 surrounded by his loving wife and loyal dog. His final words "I love you" to his wife will be forever cherished.
Michael was born in Yonkers, NY, on February 3, 1945, a date he appreciated as a numbers enthusiast (2-3-4-5). Raised in Schenectady, NY, he later returned to Yonkers and graduated from Yonkers High School in 1963.
In 1965, Michael met the love of his life, Arleen. They married in 1969 and made East Fishkill their home in 1972. They shared nearly six decades of companionship and devotion, raising two daughters, Kimberly and Heather, who carry forward his passion for learning and his enduring curiosity of the world.
Michael's career began with General Foods in Tarrytown, NY in 1968 as a chemical technician. In1981 he received a patent for his work on the process for preparing gasified candy, better known as "Pop Rocks". After earning an Accounting degree in 1984, Michael transitioned to corporate finance. Early on he pioneered his department's use of VisiCalc spreadsheet software to digitize financial calculations and record-keeping. He retired from Kraft General Foods in 2000.
Michael was predeceased by his mother Anne Fraleigh (née Daniels) in 2003; stepfather Henry Fraleigh in 2006; and father Michael John Kuchman Jr. in 1949. He is survived by his wife, Arleen; daughter Kimberly and husband Tony Rodas; daughter Heather and husband Dan Mattern; grandsons Daniel Michael and Oliver William; and his cherished "fuzzy creature" Abigail.
Michael's passions included going to car shows (favoring his previous car, a 1966 Dodge Coronet 440), exploring new technology, and listening to "oldies" music. In retirement, he enjoyed cycling, birding, teaching Excel classes, traveling with Arleen, and photography. His wildlife work was featured in a 2009 publication by the 'Ralph T. Waterman Bird Club' of Dutchess County, an organization he enjoyed. He delighted in family time, creating memories filled with laughter and joy. His kindness and sense of humor leave an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A 'celebration of life' will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to Hudson Valley Hospice.
