Michael James Kurtz, 53, residing in Milan, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 22, 2025 at his home after a lengthy illness.
Mike was born on October 24, 1971 in Cleveland, OH to John R. Kurtz and Brenda S. (McBee) Schneider.
Mike attended Fairdale High School in Louisville, KY. During his time in Ohio, he worked at Lear in Huron. He was a big man with an even bigger heart-kind, generous, and always more concerned about others than himself. Mike had a gift for friendship; he was surrounded by great friends and was, in turn, a truly great friend. His sense of humor was ever-present, always ready with a joke to lift someone's spirits.
His daughter lovingly teased him, calling him the "Smooth Pimp of Love," a nod to his easy charm and playful nature. Mike was a homebody at heart, happiest spending time in the comfort of his home with his beloved cat and best friend, Ollie. He enjoyed gaming on his computer, playing video games, watching UFC fights, and tending to his garden with care and pride. His presence, laughter, and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mike is survived by his father, John (Pat Sadler) Kurtz; mother, Brenda (Dave) Schneider; daughter, Jessica (Andrew) Sanders; grandchildren, Connor and Ian; sister, Kathy (Ralph) Lepar; brothers, John Kurtz and Tim (Dora) Meade; nieces, Bryanna and Autum; nephews, Levi, Jaden and Zack; and numerous other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Dorothy Kurtz and Margaret McBee.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 3:00 pm at the Kurtz Farm in Milan, OH. A second Celebration of Life will take place on June 6, 2025 at 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm at City of Heritage Creek, 8700 Justice Way, Louisville, Jefferson County, KY 40229.
Those wishing to contribute to Mike's memory may do so to the family, c/o Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870.
